Numbulwar Numburindi Arts wants to teach you how to weave too. Your weaving kit contains everything you need to get started
Included in the box:
- Guided video and illustrated step-by-step instruction
- Enough raffia to make a small basket
You will be guided through the process of weaving by expert educator Rose Wilfred and her aunties, Nicole and May Wilfred. Proceeds from the sale of each weaving kit support intergenerational learning and the next generation of weavers at Numbulwar Numburindi Arts.
BUILT ON SELF-DETERMINATION, NUMBULWAR NUMBURINDI ARTS (NNA) IS A COLLECTIVE OF ARTISTS WHOSE MISSION IS TO KEEP CULTURE STRONG.
Established in 2019, Numbulwar’s first art centre is 100 per cent owned and controlled by the community. Born from the community’s desire to practice and engage with traditional culture, NNA is a space for artistic and cultural expression.
Champions of fibre art, NNA artists marry naturally-dyed and locally-harvested pandanus with bright and bold ghost nets, abandoned fishing line retrieved from Numbulwar’s shoreline. Our Wulbung (baskets) and Yir (dillybags) fit as naturally in traditional applications as they do in contemporary, urban environments.
Numbulwar sits on the Rose River and belongs to the Nunggayinbala clan, one of the Wubuy or Nunggubuyu speaking clans from the region. Ceremonial activities are still very important within the region and occur regularly.
These weaving kits have been purchased directly from Numbulwar with money from each purchase going back to the community directly.

Love this weaving kit thanks so much
A wonderful, mindful activity, especially when you are on holidays. Slows you right down
I can’t stop weaving! The video was easy to follow and I havent stopped since.
This is a beautiful product made so particularly by the excellent video where the ladies demonstrate step-by-step the process. The video is lovely and sets the pace and atmosphere required for this wonderful, ancient craft. I'm so grateful, thank you so much.
